# How to Determine the Size of Jewelry Using an Inches and Millimeter Scale

To determine the actual size of a piece of jewelry, one needs a good understanding of the millimeter and inches scale. A scale comparison of American coins is shown below to give you a way to relate to the size of items in millimeters as it compares to inches:

When viewing a piece of jewelry in the detail page, a length or width will be shown below the "Setting Information" panel to the right. "Length" typically indicates the height of an item and is shown in millimeters and in some cases we also show inches. When we list "band width" it is the thickness of the band for a ring in millimeters.

To better assist in determining the size of a jewelry item in inches, use the table below that converts millimeters to inches from 1 mm to 40 mm:

 1 mm = approximately 1/32" 11 mm = approximately 7/16" 21 mm = approximately 13/16" 31 mm = approximately 1 1/4" 2 mm = approximately 1/8" 12 mm = approximately 1/2" 22 mm = approximately 7/8" 32 mm = approximately 1 1/4" 3 mm = approximately 1/8" 13 mm = approximately 1/2" 23 mm = approximately 15/16" 33 mm = approximately 1 5/16" 4 mm = approximately 3/16" 14 mm = approximately 9/16" 24 mm = approximately 15/16" 34 mm = approximately 1 3/8" 5 mm = approximately 3/16" 15 mm = approximately 5/8" 25 mm = approximately 1" 35 mm = approximately 1 3/8" 6 mm = approximately 1/4" 16 mm = approximately 5/8" 26 mm = approximately 1" 36 mm = approximately 1 7/16" 7 mm = approximately 1/4" 17 mm = approximately 11/16" 27 mm = approximately 1 1/16" 37 mm = approximately 1 1/2" 8 mm = approximately 5/16" 18 mm = approximately 3/4" 28 mm = approximately 1 1/4" 38 mm = approximately 1 1/2" 9 mm = approximately 3/8" 19 mm = approximately 3/4" 29 mm = approximately 1 1/8" 39 mm = approximately 1 9/16" 10 mm = approximately 3/8" 20 mm = approximately 13/16" 30 mm = approximately 1 3/16" 40 mm = approximately 1 9/16"
